3 tips to help you relax during your period (plus free sound bath)

With so much going on in the world at what’s always been a typically busy time of year, we’re sharing our top 3 tips to help you relax during your period. Plus, get access to our free guided sound bath meditation to help you switch off and unwind whenever you need it

Hormonal changes throughout your menstrual cycle can trigger emotional and physical symptoms. These fluctuations may lead to feelings of irritability, upset, or anxiousness.

To support your body during your period, it’s important to focus on self-care as well as making sure you’re getting enough nourishment and sleep. We know that the world is an unsettling place right now which can increase anxiety or stress. So, we’re sharing our top 3 tips to help you unwind and relax on your period (or anytime you need to chill out):

Book a self-care evening

Don’t feel bad about prioritising yourself – putting time aside, even if it’s only 10 minutes, for a self-care boost is essential. In the same way that you’d make dinner plans with friends, book out a self-care evening with yours truly. You can choose how you spend this time. Perhaps you soak in the bath for 30 mins, entertain yourself with a little scroll on TikTok or get cosy on the sofa with a Christmas film and a bar of chocolate.

The choice is yours but just make sure you don’t ‘cancel’ this plan. It’s the perfect way to relax and lift your mood.

Unwind before bed with an evening routine

Jumping straight into bed after working on your laptop or watching something like a horror film can make falling asleep a challenge. And sleep is so important at any time, let alone during your period. So, create a routine such as having a hot shower, putting your pyjamas on, and reading on the sofa before bedtime. Whatever you find works for you, stick to it so your body starts to get used to unwinding before you go to bed. It might also help to journal before bed to write down anything that’s playing on your mind.

Try a gentle exercise

If you feel up for a bit of exercise, it can help improve circulation, lift your mood, and help you relax. But on the lead up to your period and during your bleed it’s a good idea to switch to less strenuous forms of exercise. You could go for a walk, go swimming, or practice yoga, for example.
